Dumangas Esplanade

🌊 What is Dumangas Esplanade 

Dumangas Esplanade is a coastal-seawall + esplanade (walkway/boardwalk along the coast) in Dumangas, Iloilo. The project was developed by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office. The work on this included building a concrete seawall, laying paving blocks, installing railings, and adding solar-powered LED streetlights. The esplanade aims to provide both coastal protection (storm-surge/sea-level-rise defense) and a public space for recreation, tourism, and community use. 

🎯 What it’s good for / What you can do There 

Dumangas Esplanade is now a popular spot for: Sunset (and sunrise) viewing — Because it’s along the coast and has open sea view, many go there to enjoy the natural scenery. Walking, jogging, and light exercise — Locals apparently use it for daily walks or runs, especially because of the paved walkway & railings. Community events & gatherings — The design and space make it suitable for small local events, strolling, or chilling by the sea. Relaxation / Chill-out vibe — For people who want a quiet break, seaside breeze, or a place to hang out in Dumangas. 

✅ Why It Matters / What’s Good 

It improves coastal safety by strengthening the shoreline — which helps protect Dumangas from storm surges and flooding. Provides public access to the sea for residents and visitors, instead of having a closed/neglected coastline. Encourages local tourism and recreation — could become a nice spot for visitors going to Dumangas for seafood, beach, or port trips. 

Here’s an easy guide to reach Dumangas Esplanade from Iloilo City: 

🚌 Option 1: By Public Transport (Jeepney/Van) Ride a jeepney going to Tagbak Terminal Look for routes: Jaro–CPU, Jaro–Liko NFA, or anything passing Jaro that ends at Tagbak. At Tagbak Terminal, look for: Dumangas-bound jeepneys, usually labeled Dumangas or Barotac Nuevo (via Dumangas) Or a van going to Dumangas (faster and more comfortable) Tell the driver: “Naog ako sa Dumangas Plaza/Esplanade area.” They will drop you near the town proper. From drop-off point, ride a tricycle to Dumangas Esplanade Only a few minutes away (around 2–5 mins) 

🚖 Option 2: By Taxi / Ride-Hailing Book on: Grab or Maxim ✔ Travel time: around 25–40 minutes depending on traffic ✔ Route: Direct via coastal and national road to Dumangas 

🚗 Option 3: By Private Car Just drive the Coastal Road / Dumangas National Road heading north to Dumangas. Stop when you reach the esplanade seawall area along the coast — it’s easy to see because it runs beside the shoreline. 📍 Nearest Landmarks you may pass: Jaro Plaza Dumangas Town Plaza (from here, ride a tricycle to esplanade) Jeepneys are cheaper, but vans and taxis are faster. Sunset hours (around 5PM–6PM) are the best time to visit Dumangas Esplanade.
